GEAR LZ Open Under New Rules – Zero Tolerance for Violators

Fellow Pilots,
My name is Brandon Hopkins and I am a Director with the AHPA (Alberta Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association). Recently, I, in conjunction with Keith at Muller Windsports and Hugo / Scott with Golden Altitude Adventures (Tandem pilots) have been in talks with Cathy-Anne of GEAR (Golden Eco-Adventure Ranch) in Golden B.C, where we have an amazing landing field called the Muller Flight Park.

Main LZ for flights originating from Mt.7 is closed indefinitely…
COVID 19 Update -PLEASE TAKE NOTE: The Golden Eco-Adventure Ranch (GEAR) is closed until further notice.
GEAR is the primary LZ and staging area for hang gliding and paragliding pilots launching from Mount 7. GEAR is private property. Please respect the closure. Do not land or trespass on the property under any circumstances.
If the situation changes, updates will be posted on this page as soon as they become available.
2019 – It’s All Over But The Crying…
Well the 2019 paragliding and hang gliding season on Mount 7 has come and gone. Snow arrived at The Lookout at the end of September this year. While there were a few warmer days in the valley through October, snow on the upper part of the access road continued to accumulate. Weather was unsettled and windy throughout the month so generally there was not much incentive to head up, even for a late season sledder.
The 2019 Season is Underway…
The road to the main launch site on Mount 7 (The Lookout) was clear as of the May 25th weekend. While conditions were difficult for the first few days, several locals didn’t miss the opportunity to air out their wings. Continue reading
Halloween 2018. We’re Done Here…
The 2018 season got off to an early start this year with the Lookout launch accessible by vehicle on the May 21st long weekend. The remaining days in May proved to be perfect weather for a number of epic XC flights.
Getting Stoked & Smoked in Golden…
The photo above was captured by Jeremy Fletcher as he completed a flight from Golden to Invermere, setting a personal best XC distance of some 110km. Jeremy, a Canadian who has been living in New Zealand for the past couple of years came to Golden in mid-July because he had heard that “big-distance” was possible here. On his very first attempt at XC from Mount 7, he achieved his goal of 100+ kilometers to Invermere. On this flight he also set a personal best for altitude gain. Continue reading
