Well the 2019 paragliding and hang gliding season on Mount 7 has come and gone. Snow arrived at The Lookout at the end of September this year. While there were a few warmer days in the valley through October, snow on the upper part of the access road continued to accumulate. Weather was unsettled and windy throughout the month so generally there was not much incentive to head up, even for a late season sledder.

The 2018 season got off to an early start this year with the Lookout launch accessible by vehicle on the May 21st long weekend. The remaining days in May proved to be perfect weather for a number of epic XC flights.

Despite the huge amount of snow this past winter, the Lookout Launch on Mt. 7 was completely vehicle accessible on May 20th this year. Just a week prior, the road was blocked with snow at the 11km mark. Having gone up the mountain on the evening of May 20th with the intent to fly out of the 9k launch, I was surprised to find that the road was in excellent shape right to the Lookout.
Flyers can take advantage of the “Mount 7 Up Truck” service for getting up to the Mt7 launch (The Lookout) or use the service as a way to retrieve your vehicle at the end of the day.
Well it’s the time of year when the end of winter is just over the horizon. Thoughts start turning to acquiring “the latest, greatest and coolest” gear for 2017. Simultaneously, enticing equipment ads start showing up – now usually in the form of beautifully made YouTube or Vimeo videos.
